Configuring Global Backup Settings in Plesk

If you serve numerous Web sites, you may want to configure the backing up process so that it does not consume much server resources.

To reduce the server load and set the disk space usage policy:

1. Go to Home > Server group title menu > Backup Settings.
2. Specify the number of simultaneous backup processes in the Maximum number of simultaneously running scheduled backup processes box. The default value is 10. Type a lesser value.

3. Select the Run scheduled backup processes with low priority check box.
4. Select the Do not compress backup files check box to disable compression.
5. Click OK.

6. To prevent the backing up processes from consuming all available disk space on the server, do the following:
1. Access the server’s file system, locate and open the file [Parallels Plesk Panel installation directory]/admin/share/pmmcli/pmmcli-rc with a text editor.
2. Locate in this file the line FREE_DISK_SPACE 20, and in place of 20, specify the amount of free disk space in megabytes that must be reserved.
3. Save the file.

Plesk Panel Importing Data From Linux/Unix-based Servers

To transfer your data using the data import function:

1. Locate the following folders on your Parallels Plesk Panel 9 server, and copy all files from them to a single directory on the server, from which you want to transfer data.

On Linux/Unix platforms, you need to copy all files from the following folders:

[parallels_plesk_panel_installation_directory]/PMM/Agents/PleskX/ and [parallels_plesk_panel_installation_directory]/PMM/Agents/shared.

2. On the source server, run the PleskX.pl utility with the appropriate command line options:

To make a copy of all data, issue the command

PleskX.pl –dump-all

Once all the required files are created, open the file content-list.xml to see what files were created. Move all these files, including dump.xml, to the destination server.
In a Web browser, log in as administrator to your Parallels Plesk Panel, go to Home > Migration Manager (in the Help & Support group), and then click Start Migration.
Select the option Transfer data already processed by the migration agent and located on the local host.
In the Migration data file location box, type the path to the directory where you saved the data. Click Next >>.

Transferring User Accounts, Domain Names and Web Sites to Plesk Panel

You can transfer data (user accounts, settings, Web sites and e-mail) to your Parallels Plesk Panel from other hosting servers managed by earlier versions of Parallels Plesk Panel or other Web hosting software.

Data transfers from Windows-based servers to Linux/Unix-based servers are not supported by the Migration Manager function available from the Parallels Plesk Panel; however, you can transfer data from a Windows-based server to a Linux/Unix-based server by backing up data on a source server and then restoring them on the destination server using the command line backup and restore utilities.

Go to Home > Migration Manager (in the Help & Support group).
To check if there are any updates for Migration Manager components, click Synchronize. These updates may include files of migration agents that enable support for transferring data from hosting platforms other than Parallels Plesk Panel.

Click Start New Migration.
Leave the Transfer data from another server option selected, and specify the following options:

The source server’s address. Specify either the IP address or the host name of the server, from which you want to transfer data.
The login name and password used for logging in to the source server.

Select the type of operating system running on the source host. (This option is available if you are using Parallels Plesk Panel 9 for Windows hosting platform.)
Specify the path to the directory where temporary files will be stored.

Specify whether you want to transfer all data related to user accounts and domains from the source server, or only specific items.

Select the data compression option, if you pay per the amount of transferred data, or if you want to save bandwidth. Data compression saves bandwidth, but consumes more disk space.
Click Next>>. The migration manager will connect to the specified server and gather information about the business objects of the source hosting platform.

If you are transferring data from hosting platforms other than Parallels Plesk Panel, select the version of the migration agent that must be used and then click Next >>. Parallels Plesk Panel automatically selects the appropriate agent version; however, if data transfer fails, you can try selecting another version of migration agent.

Upgrading License Key for Your Plesk Panel

Parallels Plesk Panel comes with a trial license key, which is automatically installed to the control panel. This license key allows you to create one user account, host one Web site and one mail box. Therefore, to fully use the Parallels Plesk Panel as you need, you should obtain a license key from Parallels or one of its resellers and install it to the control panel.

Parallels Plesk Panel will attempt to connect over TCP/IP to the licensing server through port 5224. Please make sure that this is not blocked by a firewall. The update process runs automatically and the Parallels Plesk Panel administrator does not need to do anything unless there is a problem. Should the Parallels Plesk Panel key expire, check your firewall and then go to Home > License Management (in the Help & Support group) and click Retrieve Keys. If the key cannot be updated, contact your reseller or Parallels (if you purchased the license key directly from Parallels).

You can test the connection to the licensing server anytime by going to Home > License Management (in the Help & Support group) and clicking Retrieve Keys.

Set up antivirus in Plesk on a Linux-based hosting server

1. Go to Home > Updates.
2. Click your Parallels Plesk Panel version.
3. In the list of components, select either Dr.Web antivirus or Kaspersky antivirus.
4. Click Install.

After the installation is completed, obtain and install a license key for the selected antivirus program, as described in the following steps.

5. Go to Home > License Management.
6. Click Order Control Panel Add-ons. The Parallels online store page listing available add-ons opens in a new browser window.

7. On this page, select the check box next to the Dr. Web Antivirus or Kaspersky Antivirus item and click ADD TO MY BASKET.
8. Because Parallels Plesk Panel add-ons are added to the license keys that already exist, the Parallels Plesk Panel Number Checking System page will open. Enter the number of your license key to which you add this feature and click Submit.

9. In the next steps, indicate the currency, number of keys, provide contact details, billing address, and payment method, and submit the form. You will be notified by e-mail when your order is processed.
10. When you receive the e-mail notice, return to the License Management screen (Home > License Management) and click Retrieve Keys to retrieve the ordered license key. Parallels Plesk Panel License Manager will retrieve the upgraded license key from the Parallels licensing server and install it to your control panel.

11. Go to Settings > Virus Protection Settings.
12. Under Antivirus preferences, select the antivirus you need and click OK.
